It was recently stated on another post that companies might want to think carefully about hiring potential employees with 'African names'.

Do this story support this or might Max Kpakio simply have been lucky on his second attempt?

Should all people with foreign sounding names try applying for jobs with British names, just to get their foot in the door?

pretty much the same for many who landed at Ellis Island, name changes came about because many of the people's name were so long or unpronounceable by the immigration officials. If they couldn't be understood as they didn't speak English the names were changed to something more manageable.

There were similar stories a couple of years about companies not interviewing applications with obviously Asian names.

It's not as if every black or Asian applicant rejected for a job resubmits their CV with a 'white' name!

But Sp, it says he not only changed his name, he changed his cv as well. The whole thing is a nonsensical non-story.
I'm rather surprised you gave it any credence. Let's hope the tribunal don't or it'll open another avenue for fraud to our Nigerian 'friends'.

I still hold on to my belief that to employ certain foreign sounding nationals into certain sensitive employment, is only taking a cautious attitude, nothing more nothing less, even though some wish to play the race card at every such incident.

I wonder how many Mohameds we have in MI5 and MI6?

"Certain foreign sounding nationals " in sensitive employment, aog ? The Americans would be a bit short of soldiers, diplomats, Congressmen, and others if they had that policy. Which foreign sounding names would you avoid? Or do you mean foreign sounding in some other way, like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Henry Kissinger?
