Boxtops, when you use cola, does it taste sweet? Does it taste of cola? I can't stand coca cola. I wouldn't want to spoil a joint of gammon. Would you recommend it for someone who doesn't like sweet things or cola?
parsley or cumberland sauce when hot ,unless your Irish then its mash ,cabbage and turnip thats sweed to us) with about half a pound of butter. Cold = has to be mash and pickles.
hello smowball

how about a nice medium-dry white wine?
i just happen to have a bottle ;)
Tilly, I've just started cooking gammon in cola. I do like cola (especially with a splash of Bacardi) but I'm not a sweet lover. It is surprisingly good.
Cheese sauce, green beans, new potatoes and a lightly chilled Chianti for me, please.
My Mum used to make an white onion sauce to go with boiled ham. And I seem to remember that we always had carrots with it as well.
Parmentier potatoes, roasted carrots, green beans and a nice glass of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc!
creamy mash potato, add egg or cream into the mix, it's wonderful. I would go with some plain veg like broccoli and snow peas.

parsley sauce and mash with peas
Tilly, the only thing I can suggest is that you buy a little bit of gammon and try it just with a can of cola. I don't like cola either, but the taste doesn't come through (IMO), it just keeps it really juicy
