this episode should be intersting, my kids ancestors were east end dockworkers at the same time as this series is set and they lived in stepney, poplar, whitechapel and ratcliffe and some were thames lightermen and watermen, see how it goes, it's been violent up to now and i'm not sure how accurate it is

Not sure what you made of it. Not sure what you mean by your kids ancestors either. Are they adopted? Would they not also be your ancestors?
Didn't really portray any of the East End life other than what we could have expected anywhere else in London. It is, incidentally, fiction and filmed in Ireland.

it's their father's side therefore not my ancestors! It was like a spaghetti western, and nothing like it would have been .
I love this programme although I know its a bit violent and depressing, but it just seems to grab my attention. I think it is well produced
Sorry DJH. Saw the picture and assumed you were male.
I think Ripper Street is developing into a fine piece of nonsense - Sherlock Holmes meets CSI, brawling in bustles. It's a hoot! I don't think they even approximate the depth of poverty and casual violence that existed in some areas back then.
