Todays debate in work.......
Mine was telling my ex girlfriend of 6 years I had fallen out of love with her and saw no future, knowing she didnt feel the same at all and that it would totally crush her. I had felt this for about 6-8 months but couldnt tell her and I got into a rut trying to convince myself I was making a mistake but it became too clear in the end how far we had drifted apart.

Some months later, we met and she thanked me for my honesty although it took her a long time to accept it. So it really is the best policy, no matter how brutal.

Such a sad thread.

Death, jd......a few times both in times of direct and then also picking up the bits. I was involved in a small team that had to be parachuted in to a relatively small Co Operation after a terrible accident - a bit like the Marchioness.

Never easy at all.

then firing somebody, most times it needs a stiff g and t afterwards.
Everyone on this thread has had a really sad story to tell. Mcfluffs has really stuck in my mind though :-(

For me too, Madmen.

People whinge and complain and complain but they don't know how hard others have had it in life.
Absolutely!
this is the saddest thread i have ever seen. some of these stories are bringing me to tears. how difficult for all of you. xx
Me too LadyJ...especially Fluff's. Doesn't do us any harm to be made to stop and think though does it? Makes people twittering on about gay people in love wanting to marry...shock horror!!!!!...look silly.
I am in tears reading these threads, I have not had to break bad news to anyone so far, long may it remain that way.
I wish I hadn't looked at this thread (no offence jd) as like Dee Sa I too am feeling tearful. OH used to be a policemen and had to deliver bad news, he said you could never switch off from it.
Like Smow, I shan't add mine.
I have had to tell relatives of their loved ones passing away over the phone, I just wished it couldn't have been face to face. The worst was having to tell my sister that I have just found her husband nearly dead after a suicide attempt after cutting both wrists, he recovered but then succeded a few weeks later.

Wow, I dont know whether to apologise for this thread now.. The theme in work was more to do with having to fire employees or tell partners that you are leaving them etc... I have a whole new appreciation for delivering truly bad news now. Sorry if this has dragged up sad memories, although if you were not comfortable sharing I am sure you would not have.

The nurse to me...to tell me my dad had died. Her face will be engraved in memory forever. I slept at his bedside every night and only left him to have a shower.
Oh blimey ummmm, that was rough : (
telling my mum that my dad only had days to live then a few months on telling her my sister had cancer,. which thankfully she recovered from .
