While most people born in England do have some love for their country, so are less likely to turn to crime, immigrants have no such qualms and will happily rip a country of off without worrying about it.
Also many immigrants come here thinking the streets are paved with gold, and when they find they aren't they are more likely to get involved in crime (even low level crime like selling counterfiet DVDs and so on).
The other problem is that immigrants tend to live together in their own communities so it is much easier to find someone from your own country to take part in illegal activities.
But ourpoliticians do not seem to care about things like this.
They are too bust increasing the size of the EU. and taking down the borders, allowing people from very poor countries to come here and rip us off.

What is the evidence of a link between immigrants and crime in general? Anyone got any statistical evidence? I bet there's a link between organised begging and foreign gangs. Otherwise, we've always had specialist operators in certain crimes who are international. Romanian beggars are all over Europe, but over the years we've had Colombian pickpockets, Maltese pimps,Nigerian cheque and credit fraudsters, Albanian prostitutes and so on
Further proof for anti Daily Mail 'Doubting Jake'.

No, aog, you miss the point or can't see it. That specialists belong to a certain country does not reflect on the citizens of, or immigrants from, that country. When I started, all the three card trick, 'find the lady' merchants, were from a few families in Camberwell (and I bet they still are). I'd be slow to accuse the whole of South London, or the whole of Britain, of being card tricksters on that account.
sp, off thread, how do you know the rest of the country is in favour, are you privy to information that we don't have.
Besides which i think that the point about open borders and allowing more people to flood in is one worth discussing. I too read that article, and not sure why some are so surprised.

But there seems to be an awful lot of people commenting on blogs, Twitter, Facebook etc.
In fact, if you look at the massive amount of feedback on newspaper websites when the vote was taken, it would seem that there really IS interest in the new laws.
If there wasn't, wouldn't the law have been passed without comment?

//why do you think the elderly are given preferential treatment when they are such a drain on society and contribute very little.//
oh -they would be the leeches of society that fought for your country 60 odd years ago, lost fathers and brothers so you can have freedom of speech? - I suggest you at least have a bit of respect if nothing else.
