Show on old, old Sky One

It was about a girl, she may have been on orphan adopted or parents died not sure. She fell into care of this old guy and he was a little scepticle i think at first but as the series went on they became bet company. It was shown on Sky One in Britain in the early 90's about 4:30 on weekdays before or after Different Strokes. Dont think it was ever on terrestrial tv. I can remember one episode late into the series that involved a cave. Very vague

sounds like heidi and her grandfather, the cave could have been where her friend peter the goatboy took shelter from the rain.

Was this set in fairly modern times?

not sure, heidi was an orphan raised by an aunt, then her aunt decided to take her to live with her grandfather in the mountains. he was not happy at first but in time he grew to love her. she made friends with goat peter and a rich little crippled girl called clara.

No wasn't Heidi. This was set in the suburbs of America. It was like a kids sitcom but started to get quite serious as the the stories went on. Thanks though for looking
