Having never visited this area, I was intrigued about a blue box, similar to an old police box, but larger, in the Magnet car park. Can anybody enlighten me?

I just had a look on streetview and it's not too clear, but it seems to look like this one below. In which case, it's a police box, but a Scottish design.

Interestingly, the description in SeaJay's link doesn't mention one of the primary purposes of these police boxes - i.e. a haven of refuge for bobbies during mob riots!

I don't know about the one you are talking about, but there is also an old Police Box in Buchanan Street in Glasgow - for a while it was a coffee kiosk.
