customer service shortcuts

a while ago one of the daily newspapers printed a list of ways to get passed automated calls to speak to a customer service agent, does anyone know what those shortcuts were?

i think one of them was that when they ask you if you have a touch tone telephone (by pressing 0 or whatever) just dont press anything and it takes you through to a real person

That's exactly what my wife did this morning after getting the usual "your call is important to us , please hold " message after pressing 1 etc , etc...She just rang back and didn't press any buttons, got through almost straight away ( to India anyway)..and got sorted .

I just watched the Richard Hamond Show on ITV and they pressed 0 then hash repeatedly and got through to a real person
