What Strange Things Have You Smoked?

Ever smoked foreign cigarettes or 'tobacco' which seemed a little less than right (though legal)? Old soldiers used to talk of 'Camel' cigarettes which tasted as though they had more camel product than tobacco, but surely this type of smoke has not died out. Recently I've had Irish cigars, made in Ireland (Ah, the tobacco plantations of Tipperary, eh?) but am now smoking old cigars, bought in auction from some deceased Empire builder's estate, which are boldly labelled "Imperials. The Best Cigars in the World. Made in Burma"! Some slight misdescription! I think there is some tobacco in there, but the taste is hiding it!

My late father grew his own nicotiana plants, threaded the leaves on wire and hung them in the greenhouse to dry out. As they turned brown they looked similar to kippers being smoked.
