Tyre pressure Rover 825

The manual states that the front should be 27psi and the rear 28psi. This seems to me to be very low for such a big heavy car? The front tyres in particular look underinflated, and have quite a noticable 'bulge' at the side. Is this safe and would it not cause the edges of the tyre to wear down more quickly? Somebody please set my mind at rest!

Thanks. However as luck would have it  this link lists 3 variants of the 825, all with very different pressures. Mine is the SLi V6 and is not given, so still none the wiser!
Hi carol anne, well, looking around various stuff it seems that most of the 825 range would have 32psi front and 32psi rear, and also noted that the Honda legend which is basically the same vehicle would also have the same tyre pressures and anyway the kerb weight of the different variants 825 is not that different within a 100Kg or so.

Thanks qapmoc, I agree, the more I look around I think 32 is a happy medium. Just can't work out why Rover were so specific about this particular variant. Five extra pounds going in each front tyre in the morning!

If memory serves correct, the 825 Honda used to be 28 all round. The diesel 825 the same and then the later Rover petrol 825 I can't quite remember but possibly 30 all round.

32 sounds pretty high to me.

BTW, the link posted by ianess is for the 2.5 diesel VM engine, which is a heavy beast. Is yours the diesel or the petrol?

Doh.... just saw yours is the V6.... now, what year is it? The early Honda 1987-1990 or the 1996> Rover version?

Hi Kebabmeister, It's a 1997 825 SLi sterling with the rover KV6 engine
Ah, I can't remember whether it's 30 or 32 for that model, but if you go for 31 you can't go wrong! :)
Question Author
Thanks Kebabmeister, that sounds about right. Though why they specified such low pressures (27&28) in the first place will always niggle me at the back of my head, guess I will never have peace of mind with this car !

28 isn't that low, it's what the older 800s all had. Some cars are as low as 26. It's the actual volume of air and size of tyre that matters.

If you inflate your tyres at a forecourt make sure to over inflate the tyre and then release the air to the correct level (by pressing the button halfway rather than all the way down) since this is the only accurate way of getting the correct tyre pressure.

I have the original rover manual, depends what size your tyres and wheels are !

Standard 825 Wheels 195/65 15 inch Front 28 Rear 26

205/55 16 inch front 32 rear 32

215/45 17 Inch front 34 rear 28

Under maximum load for 15 inch wheels u want 30 front 28 rear

If u plan to do in excess of 100mph on a track day hint hint nudge nudge (youd never break the speed limit would you)

15" 36 front 34 rear

16" 36 front 36 rear

17" 40 front 34 rear

I currently overtake on 30psi all round ! What is yours a manual or an automatic? have you ever had a headgasket failure, i hope and pray the day never comes.

You should have popped for a sterling with the full leather trim, I wanna go and drive it now lol !
