I believe the "General" (??) is 01 and Herbie is 53...

cannot help with actual answer but correct that the general is 01

What about the minis in The Italian Job

may be Tom Cruise and his rival in Days of Thunder

not exactly sure why this film comes to mind but maybe layer cake
