Cashed Cheque Gone Missing
10 Answers
If a cheque is showing as debited out of my account and the payee is saying they have not received the cheque, my bank say that it can only be paid into the account name on the cheque but they are adamant they have not had the money how do I find out who has my money? Why will nobody tell me where the money has been paid into? I have a copy of the cheque and with my own detective work I have found out where the cheque was paid into, and that it is now in a central unpaids unit, even though it has been debited from my account. I have been told that the banks involved do not have to surrender this information even when my own bank has requested the paying in slip. We are now being threatened with legal action for an un-paid invoice when as far as I am concerned it is paid.
I have spent hours trying to solve this when the bank could so easily do this.
HELP PLEASE!!!

So basically the money has come out of my account but nobody can tell me where it is.
Hi All, The cheque was sent to our suppliers on 31 Aug, they say they never received it, it was banked on the 5 Sept (date on back of cheque) & debited from our account on the 7th Sept, however the stamp says NatWest, our supplier does not bank with them but the Natwest Bank is on the same road/estate as our supplier's address, I suggested it may have got mixed up with someone's own banking only to be told that would never happen.
So should I suggest to the suppliers to claim it back from the unpaids unit?

I had a similar experience, although the amount was for only £10 and eventually it was sorted having been accepted as having been paid and received by the payee, our local council. I did however make enquiries at my bank and for a fee of £10, they could have traced the cheque. In the end, this wasn't necessary but I was told that the onus was down to the payee to pay for this had it have been necessary as I had proof that the cheque had been cashed.
the bank stamp will have the sort code for that branch, check which branch it is here

then ring that bank and tell them they took the cheque in, who's account did they try to put it into? The payee written on the cheque will not have matched when they sent it for clearance and so they won't have known whereit was meant to go
