Sudden Sharp Chest Pain
15 Answers
My OH has just been diagnosed with gall bladder stones and is waiting for treatment. Tonight about four hours ago while riding his scooter ( upright ) he developed a sharp pain in his chest that will not abate. He has eaten, the pain neither increased or decreased. The pain is the opposite side to the gall bladder so we are not sure if it is related.
The only time he seems to lose the pain is when he exhales !
I think it might be muscular but what on earth can he have pulled sitting on a bike ?
He has not had a cough or felt unwell until this pain started. Any ideas ?

If in doubt, phone NHS Direct on 08 45 46 47.

Thank you Cupid and Chris,, he eats little fried food and had not eaten any when this started today. There he was tooting along when the pain started, or when he became aware of it.
I have looked at the link Chris and thankfully I think we can rule out heart attack. I had pneumonia last year and I was in terrible pain. He is saying it is similar to that. I shall dose him with pain killers soon and see if he can rest. If not I will call NHS Direct. thanks again.

By the time that you get my post it will all have been sorted.
If the pain is persistent then it is ounlikely to be due to gallstones, which comes and goes in waves. I wouLd certainly agree with daffy that it does sound muscular and Ibuprofen 600 mgs would soon offer a solution one way or another. If it doesn't abate following this , then I would take him to A&E.
Give us some feedback.
