Why do models on catwalks have serious glum faces but on shopping channels like QVC grin like cheshire cats?

Don't they just. I long for the Dior and Hartnell models of yesteryear - the epitome of suaveness and sophistication.

I'll give a serious answer...

This may be way off the mark but it's possibly something to do with not wanting to draw attention away from the clothes. If the model is smiling you might end up just staring at their face.

Shopping channels, well they have to be 'approachable', etc. They want to draw people in.

Different targets, different objectives.

Catwalk models have to be distant and remote so people focus on the designs. The target audience are not buying for themselves.

QVC wants to appear friendly, approachable so the viewer can relate and imagine themselves wearing the outfit.

Yes I wasn't getting at the catwalk models but having to watch QVC with my other half gives me the pip with those false grins. I thought the idea of modelling was to concentrate on the clothes not looking who can produce the cheesiest smile.
