Just been to my local Ikea for the first time for a number of years. Couldn't help wondering what would happen in the case of a fire, it is like an Aladdin's cave.

I agree denis, it seems ages before you get to the end of the store. I've wondered about fire escapes myself. Is that the one in Birstall?

the lights would go out and you would see a row of florescent arrows on the floor showing you the way out...........or was that Sheldon's place?

It has loads of fire escapes. I assume the staff would be drilled to open them.

yes askyourgran, it was at Birstall. I can't see DJHawkes suggestion would be helpful, there would be a right panic if all the lights went out. IMO

The lights will be on a ' maintained' system. Ie if the supply failed then a battery system would kick in.

but the green flourescent tubes around all the doors and the very bright green florescent arrows on the floor would be very distinctive and you've made me try to spell floursecent 3 times now grr

Bumping into the Riggenblucker furniture on the way out with a few hundred others with kiddies and pushchairs. Can't say I've noticed the signs, but Mr Ask hates going there so I can't check it out now.

If there was a fire, you'd get out quickly and easily and without walking miles to get anywhere, which the exact opposite of what happens when there isn't one.

Don't be silly. They have lots of fire escapes: they're in a box and can quickly be assembled with one screwdriver!

^ lol, but erm... Indeed ??? I for one hate shopping for anything... and wanted to leave and let them get on with it...but blimey I did think it was the crystal maze. I didn't get the prize at end of it
