Energy Rip-Off
Scottish Power have sent £900m of my money to their head office in Bilbao this year.
They, and the other members of the cartel have doubled energy prices in 5 recession filled, belt- tightening years.
All obscured by green/enviroment/
future/any old flannel policies.
My question is, does anybody know what happened to the gravy train, that is,Global Warming?

We have a shortage of electricity and gas . The price is going to go up and up.
We buy gas on the European market and have to pay what ever is the going rate .With electricity we have just not planned for the increase in power needs, the old nuclear plants are rapidly being withdrawn and we have not planned to build any more. The only way forward is to build more nuclear power plants but it takes at least 25 years while the old ones have to be shut down within 5 years or so. We may very well be paying 10x what we are now within 20 years.

EDF won't proceed with Hinkly plant without government price guarantee at twice current price. Can you blame them with subsidies handed out for other energy sources.
It's got everything to do with GW.
When wholesale price of energy goes down they bluster about GW
Related policies & surprise, surprise put retail price up.

svejk The entire point is that the wholesale price of energy is never going to go down while there is a shortage. The failure to build new nuclear power plants means that gas is being increasingly used for electricity generation . With gas being in demand for electricity production as well as direct heating the gas price will never drop significantly , so the gas and electricity price will inevitably rise until a new source of electricity is available. If global warming does happen it should reduce the need for power / heating so drive costs down.
