Recently whilst cleaning out the sediment from the bottom of the chip pan (electric of course) I found a rubber glove that we had lost about eighteen months ago. Do you think that it might of effected the lard or can I just top it up as usual?

I would go with the top-up since you're not dead yet - and what can be more boring than cleaning out a fryer (other than the grill pan, oven and various other household bits n pieces). And if your fryer is that dirty you won't even need to buy grub. Just switch it on and see what kind of living entities it crisps up for you!
