CD-R Quality

I'm looking to transfer a buch of old tapes on to my computer & then burn them to cd. As theyre my own recordings I want the quality to be as good as poss. Are some cd-r's better than others & can anyone recommend the best?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Hi WW, well to be honest the CD you use will make no difference at all really, your main problem will be to make sure that you have a good sound card set-up, part of the problem with what you want to do is that the signal level output from a tape-player is too low for the input to a sound card and the headphones output is often too high. You might have to play around with connections and controls settings a lot to get a good recording level with no distortion.
Then you have to decide what format the final files will be in, if you record as a wave file the quality will be good but the files sizes will be enormous, if you record as MP3 the file size will be smaller but the sound quality will not be so good.
