Has Ab Become More Racist?
54 Answers
I joined AB abut 8 years ago and perhaps it's my memory but I don't remember the constant stream of casual racism that we see now.
Every day we seem to have some story picked out of the press - allways regarding some crime comitted by a black youth or Asian man with the predictable chorus of complaint that why can't they be deported.
Almost as if crime was a purely racial issue.
Is this my memory playing tricks on me or has AB actually become a home from home for racial prejudice?

I wonder some don't actually see how offensive some of that is.
As some people indicate their opinion of me been a racist, I stopped someone fiddling an Asian person with L.D. getting swindled by his family, the same person that his so-called family would not take out because they found it very embarrassing, I had no problem, the same racist person that some indicate that used to take this person out & help him by his clothes, take him for meals, used to wash / support / care for him, you do not know the half. Do not knock someone because some has a positive view.
Racism is often in the eyes of the beholder. What may be acceptable to one may be offensive to another. Good God! Have we become so touchy feely that we can't even say that some immigrants are getting govt. benefits bestowed upon them that are not available to needy folks in UK? I shudder to think what my friends of many years gone by think of all this foolish behaviour, as many of them were non-white and we frequently referred to each other by the uncomplimentary colour of our skins, never with any malice.
I am not one of those idiots who take delight in knocking off turbans, but why is it frowned upon to question why a Sikh is exempted from wearing a motor cycle helmet or safety helmet at work, when in truth it is a law that divides the legal obligation of citizens on religious grounds.

It sounds like you're calling for increased censorship of views\questions you personally don't agree with or like.
I think the Ed/Moderators do a pretty good job in weeding out the blatantly nasty stuff that shouldn't be allowed on here.
As regards the rest, the thing to do is defeat it with argument. Show the perpetrators up for what they are with logic, reason, and ridicule when appropriate. - This is in fact what already tends to happen, so I don't see a problem.

I do not think it is becoming more racist at all. The problem is with people like Jake who have develop some sort of hypersensitivity and see insult where none is intended. The papers are indeed full of stories about this issue but on closer examination these are usually about a trivial remark that complainant seeks to translate into cash or publicity. In the sixties I worked with a black guy who always introduced himself by his nickname "Midnight". I was Jock.
You should get out more Jake, go and live in another country for a while and see how the world really works.
