Soft contact lenses
5 Answers
Two weeks back I opened a new pair. Last night I ran out of cleaner and can't get any more until I go home at the weekend. So they didn't dry out I put them in boiled water (cooled). Obviously you shouldn't do this, but if I then clean them properly will they still be OK or will 3 days in water harm them? Thanks.

The reason we use solution is that tap water (boiled or not) contains loads of nasty chemicals that can irritate or damage your eyes. I've found myself in the same position as you before and have quite successfully wrapped the lenses carefully in clingfilm or just let them try out and then rehydrated them by soaking them in solution the next day after a quick visit to the local chemist! Didn't have any bad reactions but it's important to leave the lenses for 5-10 minutes to rehydrate before touching them to avoid damaging the delicate wee things!
