Clot In Liver Following Biopsy

A number of years ago my mum had a liver biopsy which went very wrong, and ended up causing a huge clot in her liver (the Consultant described it as the size of a very large easter egg). She was in intensive care for a week and hospitalised for several weeks before being allowed home. She has been told that the clot is now more like the size of a cadbury's creme egg but will always be there. Intermittently she still gets pain and discomfort as a result (although not being one to complain, i don't know how often or how severe). The last few days she's been in a lot of pain with it and is hoping to get hold of the doctor today for an appointment (tried yesterday but couldn't get through!), her blood pressure is also up (they have a monitor at home) and she thinks she may have a urine infection too. Could the pain be caused by the infection? or is the infection a result of something else?

If anyone has any advice they can give me on this i'd be very grateful. Mum is 70 years old by the way, but very fit and healthy, barely drinks at all (one glass of wine with christmas lunch sends her rosy cheeked and giggly), and has a healthy diet.

By this time, years on, it is unlikely that the blood clot is causing her problems as it would now be well "organised." (healed, sealed off)

Yes a urinary infection could cause the pain, high up in the liver region.
It is extremely unlikely that her past history of liver clot is playing any part either in her pain or infection (if present)

See your GP and keep us informed.

if you cant get an appointment with your doctor and your mum is suffering take her to the accident and emergency at the hospital...dont hang about waiting for a doctors appointment..

Thanks guys. I did tell her yestrday that we would go up the hospital but she doesn't like to make a fuss. I will know more when i speak to her lunchtime and see whether she's managed to see the GP. I'm really hoping that the infection is causing the discomfort - but i know that my mum has been in significant pain so it seems that the pain is worse than one would normally expect from an infection. She has a very high pain threshold and, seriously, makes such an effort not to worry us that she would really not even mention it unless it was very bad.
