Here are some tips for you:
1. Whatever you do, keep the cv looking plain and un-cluttered. As someone who recruits I am always looking for applicants who can express their skills/experience in a few short sentences or bullet points rather than long paragraphs.
2. The accompanying letter or statement in support of the application should elaborate on anything in the cv, so you can keep the cv short and to the point.
3. Keep it to no longer than 2 pages of A4.
4. Always print on good quality white paper.
5. Structure it so that the most recent work experience is at the top, then order your previous work chronologically back from this date.
6. Try and tailor your cv to each job, or sector (e.g. public or private) that you are applying for so that your previous experience is more in keeping with what they are looking for.
Good luck!

The only difference I can think of between a standard UK (or actually European) resume and the US standard resume is that in European resume
you usually include a photo while you will never see one in the US resume. You can download many different samples for both European and US-style resumes on this site: http:// www.hlo om.com/ browse/ profess ional-r esume-t emplate s
