Choo Choo Trains!

Right... Bear with me here.

Would trains in the early to mid nineties have made a proper train sound as they pulled away? I'm adamant that I used to go on trains with my Grandma when I was wee and they made the chug chug sound. My Dad says that's impossible!

Please tell me i'm not dreaming this up! There must have still been trains around that made proper train noises!

This is the most nonsense question i've asked on here but I need an answer! :-)

I can't find whether your local trains are electric or diesel. I know the ones down my way are all electric so I'm always aware of the noise of the diesels when I'm at one of the big stations cos they're so much louder. It might be that you don't hear diesels very often.
