Ideally have all your drivers on a separate CDROM before you start. Get the basic XP up and running, apply any Service Packs you may have, install firewall, anti-virus, get Internet connection working and download all XP fixes.
Then, start introducing any additional cards, drives, etc. one by one.
This looks like a problem with a piece of hardware you have.
As BillyNoMates says the easiest way to sort it is to remove anything additional and then introduce your hardware piece by piece, also ensure you get the latest drivers for all your hardware as it could just be a problem with one of the Microsoft XP drivers.
If you got a recovery CD with your PC then pop that in and it should wipe your PC and then set up XP for you.
