Taxing Pensioners Benefits

There is an ad on my bus-showing a group of idiotically grinning pensioners waving bus passes,etc...and describing how many are missing out on all the *many* freebies,discounts and priveledges available to them.
Maybe if a prat like Vince Cable would give up his many priveledges,there may actually be some for struggling pensioners.

we already pay tax on our state pension and i like many others have to pay tax on a private pension that i get from my late husbands works!!

I see little benefit in taxing bus passes since they are there for the non-busy times when otherwise the bus runs empty anyway. No point in detering use of them, it's a cheap & east way to make life better for a section of the community. I think we are all overtaxed now anyway. If the government stopped putting it's collective head in the sand and got the economy rolling again there would be less need to brainstorm this sort of suggestion.

Well they have to get the money from somewhere to send armoured vehicles to Syria....so why not let the pensioners pay for that wonderful idea..-((

I found this thread very interesting. I pay income tax on my pension although very reluctantly. If I could find a way out of it, I would, but no, they tax it at source and I have no option. Vince Cable obviously is completely out of touch with real life. I have no bus pass as I do not need one, - I only go out when taken by someone, but - hey ho - what the heck - at least I am still alive.

The problem with Vince Cable is that he is a professional politician. He did try working in the private sector for a couple of years but, discovered he was required to ensure the company not only made a profit each year but, it also had work for the next few years. He couldn't stand the pace so rejoined the political wing of the party to ensure a good life at the expense of the taxpayer.
