Hi
12 days ago I had carpal tunnel surgery and the doctor who performed the op gave me a note for work for 2 weeks, he was not my gp nor was it done at my local surgery. I havnt had a day off work for 9 years but i'm afraid that the 2 Weeks I was given isn't enough got my hand to heal. I'm still in considerable amount if pain and don't have full mobility in my hand, I work in a food factory and the work I do is manual, I work with my hand. I'm seeing my local gp tomorrow but I feel really awkward asking for an enote'xtension on certificate. What is the best way to ask, because i'm afraid he will say no, i've never asked for a'sick note before so i'm a little bit anxious about it.
Thanks

It would be foolish to go back to work before you are fully recovered especially as your job is manual. I'd go to my g.p if I was you and ask for an extension on your sick note.I hope you feel better soon. cupid04.

Thanks cupid, not only that but I ride a motorcycle to work. Ok just afraid he will say no, I think because I've never asked for one before it makes me nervous.
Well if you've never taken time off work before that must prove your not a malingerer. Have you not got a friend or neighbour that can give you a lift to the doctors?
This will be no problem as 2weeks off work after carpal tunnel surgery in a manual worker is insufficient

Don"t worry.
you just need to say "my hand doesn't feel well enough to go back to work yet"
Agree with Sqad, My other half is waiting for the same op, she was told the hand may be out of action for 6 weeks! and being already disabled she doesnt work (well not as an employee)

Thanks for your answers, I leave in an hour but I can walk to the doctors, had to get used to walking everywhere but unfortunately my place of work is too far to walk and there's no one on the same shift as me. I'm just going to take your advice and tell the doctor. Ratter15, hope it all goes well with your partner, I was terrified when I had mine done but its over before you know it
