Depressing Tv

Recorded and just watched programme on the Hutterites.
Found it utterly depressing.
Why do so many religions and/or sects seem to make women cover their hair and men to grow facial hair?
Again there are men in control. Women on their hands and knees washing the floor. Men saying that the women seem to enjoy it.
Segregation of the sexes.
Nothing said about education or choice of life partners.
Am I lucky not to be an American?

Daisy the Amish also have wierd practices and other less well known American sects. In particular you almost described Islamism in the OP. Obviously religions thought up and controlled by men for men.

Thanks for your answer ask (or would you rather gran?) Have found out some things about the Amish. At least they give their youngsters the opportunity to go off course for a while. Why do men think that they have the right to control women? Never thought of myself as a feminist but in my old age am getting there.

Daisy I thought it was a fascinating programme, I'd never heard of the Hutterites before. Wasn't the young photographer extremely talented - what a wasted life he'd have if he stayed within the Hutterites?
