iPod video without windows XP

i received an ipod 30gb video recently as a gift from my mum. Unfortuately, she didn't know my computer spec and I only have windows ME. I'm told that I can't use it unless i have 2000or XP so I'm getting a little frustrated as I can't use it. Is this true? If not how can I run my iPod with ME?

it's normally a program called iTunes that you use to play your music on the computer, as well as sync your music with the iPod itself. this is only for win2000 and winXP.

to get it to work on winME, you could use yamipod (another free piece of software):

or you can use winamp (a free music player) together with a plugin that lets you use the iPod with it:

having said all that, i'd still recommend try to upgrade to windows 2000 anyway because winME is terrible. but this may be a lot of trouble, or just not viable at all. yamipod is probably the easiest option.

Cant you just go into PC World or something and buy the Windows XP disk box set? A little pricey but worth it rather than buying a new computer.....mind you I have never bought one from a box..does anyone know if you can just do that? Buy the discs and just run it on your computer? or does it need more than just that?

brooklyn77: yes, you could just do that. but its a little excessive isn't it, to get an iPod to work? The software i've linked is free and will let it work anyway. you just wont have the nice iTunes interface.

Thanks fo3nix - I gave winamp a whirl and it's worked! Yamipod kept crashing, so no luck there - methinks my computer's a bit crap. Maybe I'd do better to go out and buy a whole new computer. Now, does anyone have a spare �500?!
