Adobe Updates

I've just started using Firefox (find it brilliant after OE) however, it may be coincidental but now most of the you tube clips, video clips etc won't work unless I download an update for adobe - a dialogue box telling me this appears on the middle of a black screen - yet when I try and download the updates by following the instructions I can't get it to work. The instructions don't seem to be 'active' - i.e. responsive to my cursor. I've tried to find some help on line but the technical jargon is beyond me - am not too computer literate! Any advice welcomed, - just to make it clear, I really am a bit thick about computers! Thank you

I assume you need Adobe Flash

Get it from here (though deselect the Chrome option first) then click the Dowload now button.

Close Firefox (and any other browsers).

Go to 'Add or Remove Programs' (or 'Programs and Features', depending on your version of Windows) from your Control Panel.

Locate and remove 'Adobe Flash Player Plug-in'.

Restart your computer.

Open Firefox.

Go here to download and install Flash Player again: http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/
(NB: Before downloading, click to remove the tick where you're offered McAfee Security Scan Plus)

Read the instructions on the screen. (I seem to recall that Flash Player doesn't self-install; I think that, after the download has finished, you'll need to go to Tools > Downloads and double-click on the downloaded file to actually install it - but the on-screen instructions will tell you anyway).

Job done.

VHG's instructions assume that Flash Player isn't already on your computer. If you were able to see Youtube videos previously it must be there but simply not functioning properly. If so, it's essential to uninstall it before downloading it again, otherwise the download won't work.

rsvp...take heed of buenchico,I has a similiar problem a couple weeks back...folllowed his advise...bing...fixed!!!!
VHG...no disrespect to you ,I am sure you also know about these thngs,it was just that buenchico was the one who solved my problem at the time.

No it does not.

A new version of Flash will overwrite any old version of Flash.

The problem is that a non-functioning installation of Flash Player is 'updated' to another non-functioning version. There have been well over 100 questions on AB from people who've found that Flash Player has stopped working and that simply re-installing/updating it doesn't work. Uninstalling first (and restarting the computer to update the registry) seems to be necessary to fix the problem.

have just got back from visiting family over there - Cape Town area.

have followed your instructions to a 't' Buenchicho and ended up in exactly the same place I got to before - when the installation begins to download - I get the horizontal chevron bar in the top left hand third of the screen fine but when this is finished......there is a pointer (arrow) on the first dialogue box giving me instructions and I can't get past this - my cursor isn't recognised -
