Ok so i decided to try and research my family tree. I joined Ancestry.co.uk, filled in what i know, which wasn't much. Then I tried asking my father about his grandparents, aunties & uncles etc. but he says he doesn't know or remember any details.

Any way I get the occasional 'leaf hint' attached to a family member, but when i click it I can't make sense of it. It's really frustrating me as I really want to do it but I dont seem to be getting any where.

any advice, please?

Cheers.

I found ancestry frustrating. But I joined genes reunited and found it easier. But it is your own preference. I joined both on a free trial and then continued with genes reunited. When you get ino it it is fascinating.
Haven't you got your fathers birth certificate, his parents names (including his mother's maiden name) will be on there.
Not been on either site for a few months. Tried earlier today and could not get anywhere. No idea how to retrieve the information I so patiently typed in over the years. Devastated.
Sorry I see you meant your father's grandparents not yours. If you send me details of what you have I'll have a look for you to get you started. email [email protected]
Why couldn't you get on Daisy, I've been on ancestry for most of the afternoon.

its the great grand parents onwards that im getting nowhere with. Its the ancesters on my dads father side im getting nowhere with.
When you say you are getting nowhere with it, your results will only be as good as the information you put into the search boxes. If your problem is that you don't understand what records you are being shown then you need to look at the tutorials for the different primary sources and then understand how these are transcribed and the results presented.
Daisy all you need to do to look at what you have already added to ancestry is to click on the second tab from the left 'Family Trees' and any tree you started will drop down,
Did you manage to get started with the help already offered? I can help if you need more assistance so please post again if I can help.
