He has already made a couple of radical remarks which is asking for trouble in the Vatikin.
The last radical pope John Paul I lasted 33 days in 1978. and not one of his edicts were enacted. There weren't many but they didn't even accord him the courtesy of enacting even one.

Pope Francis is a conservative and a Jesuit to boot , so he may last for a while, but dare he break ranks ?

I hope he'll give it a go - he seems more like a normal bloke (as it were) than his predecessors.
What constitutes a normal bloke?
Not isolated and precious. He worked in the real world before he took up the priesthood relatively late in life - he still goes on the bus - makes jokes about being made Pope - and so on.
John Paul I lasted 33 d because he um died

so when do you think Francis will die - God knows

unless you know you think JP I was um poisoned.

and Jesuits - you know they last longer huh ? except the short lived ones of coruse.
It doesn't really matter, nothing will change despite what people think. The Pope is like most heads of state is only a figurehead the bureaucracy that actually runs things and makes the policies never changes, so as I said it doesn't matter how long he lasts I can bet quite safely that we'll not see any major changes in policy in the near future.
Must admit I am not entirely sure what modeller is getting at. As PP says, JP1 died only 33 days into the job. Its not as if he was asked to resign for being a radical or anything, unless you are implying a conspiracy/ murder?

No idea how long this guy will last.I would imagine that, given a reasonable health for his age, he should have a good 10 years or so....
From 24 hours in a fridge to three months in a chest freezer with no problems.

I suggest you read the various sites in Google rather than me listing a load of sites. However here's one of AB's favourite with pics.

Paddywak, you mean like the government?
I have hopes that he will bring the catholic hierarchy down to earth, but it is still very early days. He will probably succumb to the pressures of tradition. The best made plans... etc.
Not terrible long I suppose but what difference does it make ?

The Cardinals will just elect another unrepresentative member of the Catholic church all over again.

ie, any new Pope will be single, celibate and reactionary, just like all the others.
I liked it when they opened up the sealed apartment for him and he said, you could fit 300 people in here. I don't need all this space. I find him refreshingly different.
@ Modeller

Thanks for the link. Must admit, first I have heard about the allegations surrounding his death.

I guess we shall have to wait and see. Again, assuming reasonable health for his age, I would think he should have a good 10 years or so. I do not see him as being significantly different from other Popes when it comes to liberalisation, but it will be interesting to see what effect he can have on the lavish living etc.

I will also be very interested to see if he involves himself at all in the Falklands Island issue, how he has the papacy...
So JP I was voted in by the cardinals and then they murdered him? I've always found that a difficult idea to grasp. Sounds quite plausible (as these things always do) till you come to motive, and then it seems a bit tenuous.
As for the current Pope, received wisdom is that he's been elected because of his zeal for Vatican reform not despite it.
