2d Capital invested in oil has appreciated (5) Think the 1st letter is A and there is LH in there too... but I can't make sense of the word play or defn?

25d What 22s crack spoils agreement for upcoming game (7) ?N???ES injokes would fit with some pencilled in answers but............?
The answer to 22 is grouplet.

For anyone who has completed this puzzle, I am stuck on the "central cell" ?

2d is probably Lhasa. (oiLHASAppreciated) = capital of Tibet. Not seen the crossword so not sure where your first letter of A comes from - are letters jumbled on entry?

Injokes is correct - people in groups would make them, I suppose.
Lhasa is correct but changes order (in the same way as the other thematic answers).
The central cell is part of a word - and that word gives a huge hint/indicator of the theme. Treat it as a wordsearch.

I'll have another look now to try to find the centre cell now!
