In my opinion, the record industry's doomed. They're losing money at the moment due to crappy sales. Correct? The only way the Napster Morpheus etc fans are going to start buying albums is if they lower the price, in which case they'll still be losing money. Only thing is an outright worldwide ban on p2p which, obviously, people wouldn't be a fan of. Alternatively the record companies could launch a big advertising campaign thing that persuades p2p users that they're destroying the record industry. Doubt that'd work either. Looks grim to me. It's the end of the time of classic musicians, singers, bands etc, like the beatles, queen, (gong, are fantastic), mike oldfield, and .... all the other ppl i don't know of/haven't wrote down. All we get in the charts these days is barrels of the poor individuals who believe they're actually good, used to bump up TV ratings on pop idol, fame academy, etc.
Anyway, to bring my rambling back to the question, nope, I don't think including ringtones would boost music sales. Why buy an album, bundled with a ringtone, when you can download the music for free and even find the ringtone free in keypress format somewhere if you're really bothered. I'm gonna stop now before i make even more probably wrong points and create a mass argument.
