fiat uno idling problems
I have a fiat uno 1108cc FIRE engine that will not idle. It either stalls or is extremely lumpy. Also when doing about 30mph with throttle backed off, the car is very jerky. Recently had head gasket replaced, all compressions ok, valve and ignition timing set as per the book. Any ideas?

A fuel injected emission controlled engine is designed to cut off the fuel supply to the engine when you lift off the accelerator. Fuel supply is restored in time to stop the engine stalling as the car slows (usually at a certain speed). Signals from the throttle position and speed sensor are fedback to the idle control system which is responsible for controlling the fuel flow. They are not the most reliable systems on the engine.

my friend had a similar problem with his Fiat Uno (H reg) back in the 90's - one of the cylinders kept failing due to some oil leak, meaning that the car would loose power, idle strangley.
Get it checked out.
My first car was a Fiat Uno 1.3 SX - it was the dogs balls, unfortunately these cars are well passed their sell by date - might be a sign!
