sleep so far under the radiator without burning himself? He only moves when he wants feeding or needs to relieve himself.

Heat rises and (as I've just checked by placing my hand underneath the oil-filled radiator next to my desk) it's not as warm below the radiator as above it. As long as Kitty doesn't actually come into contact with the metal he should be fine.
