I was 6 at the time, and ladybird mentioning that it started on boxing day, suddenly made me remember that there was great family disappointment my father was unable to drive to collect my cousins,to bring them to our house to watch the pantomime. The only other thing i remember,is that a local lake froze completely, and we were taken to see people skating on it. It's never happened since, but, every time we drive past that lake,I can still see myself,in the car, watching those skaters:-)
I remember Windermere freezing over in 1963. We skated and generally had fun. When the ice broke up it could be heard at night grating and crunching and booming. It was terrific.
let you all into a secret - I'm a 90 year okd Geordie - joined this chatterbank because I feel so Lonely now that wifie is in a nursing home.
Suppose I will get used to the empty house when i comw back from visiting but it is hard

Always somebodies birthday or wedding anniversary
Welcome to the gang. We're a varied lot but mostly harmless. Why not start your own thread by just saying hello to everyone and copy what you have put on here.
Good to see you jacklee. We need some new blood on this site no matter how old you are.
I remember the freeze, certainly, but from a different angle to everyone else. I emigrated to Australia in August 1962 when I was 18 years old but saw all the reports on tv and had letters from home.
I returned home in time for my 21st birthday in May 1965. Got homesick.
I remember the winter of the late seventies/early eighties being snowed in and running out of gravy. My next door neighbour threw me an oxo cube which subsequently landed in the snow drift. Don't remember what I had on my roast that day!
i was 7 and a bit and remember it well, i remember the front door opened and all it was a wall of snow, we lived on a farm and from our front gate we could see white fields for miles, right across to Winter Hill beyond Ashurst Beacon, Skem hadn't been built then.
