Confession time - I am probably over confident and sometimes need reining in

I was invited to a function where there were approximately 250 guests. The highlight of the night was going to be the guest speaker... who didn't turn up. The organiser asked me if I could step in to give a speech of "only" 20 minutes.
To this day all I can remember is standing up and then sitting down again after 20 minutes. What I talked about is anyone's guess.

I'm very timid. It took me months to answer on a thread and I'm still terrified to ask a question.

Agree with coccinelle; I think you can be confident in some things but timid or shy in others. I am confident in some things, such as public speaking or being on the stage, which most people find intimidating, but shy at ordinary parties, for example.

Mostly yes but depends on the circumstances, given a situation like Interviewing someone (three of us) I was more nervous than the interviewees.

But traning someone to do a specific job, making them feel at ease I'm confident about.
