First movie with surround sound

Which was the first movie which had a multi-channel surround-sound soundtrack when it was first released? I think it was The Guns of Navarone which was made in 1961 - I remember the sound of approaching aircraft coming from the rear of the cinema.

In 1940, Walt Disney's Fantasia was the first film to be released in a multichannel format called Fantasound.

But there was a Tarzan movie that had this special sound thing

Well I remember going to 'Earthquake' which they said was the first real surround sound ... it was very realistic, whether it was the first or not I don't know but I do remember the hype at the time.
