Economy At The Bbc

Can anyone explain to me why on some BBC progs it takes two people to read out news items.? The first person reads a line of news & then looks at the second person who takes up what is obviously printed on the prompter & then it goes back to the first guy & so it goes on. Surely in these days of national economy it could without a problem be a job for one person, or is the answer simply that the BBC couldn't care less about spending because the cash keeps coming in on a plate courtesy of the licence payers?

I thought the Beeb only had one newsreader at a time. Unless you're talking about News 24 when they sometimes have 2.

My sister said the exact same thing as you whiskeryron - it happens on our local news - 2 people - no call for it .

It applies to the chattier, less formal, programmes such as the BBC and ITV morning shows. An American discovery; people find it more relaxing than having one newsreader behind a desk. But, as here, for the formal news programmes even the American networks have just one 'newscaster'
