I was given a Dunhill 22 carat gold cigarette lighter. I have just dropped it in the washing up water. Will it dry out or is it knackered. Please no anti smoking lobby answers.

As far as I can tell from Google, your lighter uses a flint (rather than Piezo-electronic ignition) so I can't think of any parts that would be permanently damaged by water. It should be fine when it dries out.
Jeza, it should be fine, just give it time.

Worthwhile saving - must be nearly antique ;) x

I'm not that old Ena. It was given to me in 1971, though I don't know how old it is. Or if it was new when I received it.

Chris, I have removed the flint and put it near the radiator. Here's hoping.
Oh Jeza, I envy you, that is a lovely present. I'm sure it'll work fine when it has dried out x
I always have a cig when washing up. ;-/

Be careful of the rip-offs, gold for money merchants (Govern'ment) changing a flint is much easier.

I would never dream of selling it, even if it never works again. It was given to me by a dear friend who is no longer with us.
The sentimental Value is always greater in my eyes... It should work again.
try putting in a bowl of uncooked rice - should help it to dry out.

Thanks for your answers. It is wait and see I think.
Jeza another suggestion, put it in the airing cupboard and leave it there for a day or two.

Tony, what good advice. I'll do that.
Well Jeza it worked with my wifes mobile phone when she managed to drop it in the washing up bowl !.
if not I have one for sale , true. like new given as a gift one week after he gave up cigs.
Don't dunhill have a service centre. If worse comes to worse you can always send it for a service. I have a lovely DuPont lighter I'm not a smoker but was given this lighter years ago. I wanted to give to my son but it wasn't working sent it I to DuPont and had it fixed. It had a life time warranty so was worth it.
