Slatted Vertical Blinds...

The thread about net curtains prompted the thought that maybe I should wash the nicotine stained and dusty ones that cover the windows. Would they survive the washing machine?

morning sandy. we have a vertical blind on our patio doors. washing instructions were '' spongeable only ''? so im reluctant to machine wash, but i wonder if any aber has suggestions for cleaning them.

We had them at our last house, they went in the washing machine inside a pillow case, never had a problem with them.

my MIL takes hers down and puts them in a soapy bath - then rinses them with clean water

My wife washes our vertical blinds by rolling them up, putting them in a pillow case, then she puts them in the washing machine. She uses ordinary washing powder, plus Oxyplus stain remover. And, yes, they are fiddly to take down and put back up. Not my job, really.

I see that mine have become festooned with spiders webs. It doesn't seem right to disturb their habitat. I'm leaving them as they are.

I've stoped smoking so they aren't going to get any darker. They're beige, I'd say. They were silvery white originally.

I recently did mine as Boxtop's MIL did. Soapy water in bath, rinse well, wrap in towels or similar to absorb most water, hang damp and Bob's your uncle as they say. Not at all difficult to dismantle. But think washing machine would scrunch them up too much, so I wouldn't try that. But they're only about 90p per slat to replace if washing is too much hassle.
