What is the best way of cooking oven ready chips. Should they be done as they are or is it better to add some oil. So far I've found 1min in the micro followed by 1or 2mins under the grill b but nothing is as good as those from the chippy.

The same applies to frozen battered fish is it best to sprinkle on some oil ?

No just bake them in the oven as per instructions on the packet.
don't microwave them, just put them straight in a hot oven (as it says on the bag)
It's never occurred to me to add oil to oven ready chips. I buy them because they 're low in fat.
Frozen oven chips are a complete waste of space. Just cut raw spuds into chip sized pieces and roast for 25 min and you have oven chips.
it's too expensive to put the oven on just for a few chips, either zap a jacket spud or go to the chippy
In the deep fat fryer!!
Bake at 350 degrees for 12 +/- minutes til desired browness and crispness......Depends on thickness of chips and how crispy you desire them to be
I'm with RATTER. Oven ready chips done in the deep fat fryer are delicious!.
They go into the oven as per the packet instructions, usually with whatever I'm having with them, too. I don't expect ship shop perfection, just a reasonable chip, and that's what I get.
Ping it in the microwave for a few seconds and viola! Tasty and ready to eat in seconds. (Just add a bit of ketchup, well I like)
I'm with Ratter, too. Once you've done oven chips in a pan, you'll think twice before ever again doing them in the oven.

I only want to do a dozen chips at a time . Will a simple frying pan suffice ?
How much oil ?
Deep frying oven chips defeats the purpose. You'd be far better off peeling potatoes, chipping them and then deep frying.

modeller, why don't you just buy those frozen microwave chips?
Why go through all that work of frying when you could buy the frozen chips and microwave it for a few seconds, and they always come out perfect. This way you'll be eliminating the intake of extra fat, and washing up and cleaning the hob.
