Dr Carter went to the taxi office to get a cab for a home visit, hope his visit wasn't urgent as he had time to talk to Eileen and discuss her problems, don't you think he would have got his secretary to arrange a taxi or doesn't he have a car!

NHS cutbacks now mean that doctors on TV are to use taxis for home visits rather than use their own car

I've never known a doctor not have a car. In the 50's/60's my old doctor drove a vintage roller.

AND you have to be dying to get a home visit, let alone one you haven't even asked for!! Stupid, makes a mockery of real people who genuinely struggle to get to see a doctor.

Our doctors do not make home visits and in emergencies we have to get taxis to the hospital which is in the next town. :-(

My friend's husband was a driver for doctors at his local practice, he used to drive them to appointments and wait outside. Don't know if the doctors couldn't drive or had lost their licences but this was his permanent job.

When my old doctor did home visits he was so quick he used to leave the car engine running..............

all our local doctors start with old bangers then a couple of years later they have chelsea tractors with personalised plates.

Nowadays, when Dr's go in some areas get their cars stoned, there is some nasty people out there, maybe thats why he had to call a taxi, he could have being going into one of those rough areas.
