In 2000 Jamaica had the third highest murder rate in the world. The figure was based on 887 murders in that year. In 2004 a record-breaking 1445 murders were reported and thus far in 2005 we are progressing at a rate of approximately five murders each day. This, while countries like the United States are reporting declining murder rates.
I'd like to praise Jamaica...a place my Husband was born and we have visited 7 times in 2 years. We go to an area in the South West called Treasure Beach which is lovely and I feel safer there than I do here in England. We love it so much we have just bought an acre of land to build a house on.We sleep with the doors unlocked and have NEVER had a single problem. The people are lovely and we mix with locals all the time. The crime statistics are mainly coming from Kingston which is a very poor and troubled capital city and like any other in the world there are problems. It's a very large island with lots to do and it's very cheap to stay there.A beautiful country..I would never go anywhere else.Check out a website called tb.net but I think you made your mind up already! Hope you like Antigua.
