Gym Membership Price Changes

I have had an email from my gym(run by local council) today telling me that my membership is going up as of the 1st of April 2013(yes i know it's the 5th today). I would have thought they would have had to give me atleast 30 days notice of any changes to my contract? Or just a notice period as common courtesy? Are they able to do this?

Is it an annual membership chrisuk or pay as you go?

and if it is annual, is it up for renewal?

It's a 12 month commited contract that i only signed in feb.

What does the contract say about price increases?
Depending on what it says you may have the right to cancel without penalty.
However I think it's likely the contract allows for annual increases based on something like RPI/CPI

No expert but I also would have thought you'd need to be told in advance and given the option to say it isn't what you agreed to and should be able to get a refund. That said, I suspect it depends on what was in the contract you signed up to. May be worth reading it through ?

If you only signed up in Feb are you still in any kind of "cooling off" period where you may change your mind ?

i honestly don't mind if the membership goes up but they have done it in a very underhand/unprofessional way buy sending me an email 4 days after putting the prices up(not really the kind of company i care to do business with)! I will contact the department within the council who is responsible.

When is the next due? They may well have given sufficient notice of that
