That was a low blow for you Mamalynne.
Svejk was expressing an opinion and I've seen people cheat the system too.
It's not only disabled people who are affected and to pretend that everyone who is on benefits is above board is just not true.
I know at least a couple of people from my old stomping grounds who are really going to miss their built-in cannabis factories.

There's a thriving black market around here of people letting, sub- letting & sub,sub letting properties provided by HB.
While this 'tax' might not stop the abuses, it might make them less attractive. The housing figures would be a little less skewed also.
There's a lot of emotive talk about Oap's, the disabled & people with no-where to move. Doubtful this will affect them & where it does, hopefully, common sense will prevail.

Cazz - I was completely unaware of the figures. I have immense sympathy with anyone who is disabled (whether it be mental disability or physical disability). Any "tax" that hits them harder is a bad thing. We should be supporting those unable to support themselves, not hurting them. God knows as someone who is supporting someone who is going blind at the moment, I have an acute awareness.
I suspect this "Tax" was aimed at one group of the population but in reality hits a completely unintended group. Such is the case with a lot of ill thought out legislation.
Now I see precisely where it is unfair.

Nothing is perfect and unfortunately I know there are cases around of people claiming benefits who have nothing wrong with them. However, I still have sympathy for the ones who have to leave homes in which they have lived for many years. They have grown accustomed to their surroundings and have grown old in a district they love. To lift them out of their preferred environment and dump them somewhere where they are strangers is cruel in the extreme. Although I think they will not be able to do anything about it, I can still feel their grief.
When we tried to get HA accommodation five years ago we couldn't get any because we were eligible for a 4 bedroom house and they didn't have any. Even though we said we would go into a larger 3 bedroomed house where we could use a downstairs room for a bedroom. There is no flexibility in the system, no room for anyone to actually think things through. (We were offered 6 months accommodation in a homeless shelter though - fab!)
Mo Jo Jo point taken - apologies to Svejk for my comment, however for the truly disadvantaged to be sacrificed to catch some fraudsters does not quite redress the balance. Hoping common sense will prevail is a nice thought, but in the meantime, how many will suffer.
Wait till next winter when those who try to tough it out are unable to heat or eat sufficiently.
