We're thinking of spending a week or so in Oxford in July or August. Can anyone recommend a hotel fairly near the railway station. We prefer to go half board.I will be getting info from Tourist Office re places to visit etc. but would be grateful for any suggestions. We're travelling by train-too far to drive!

The closest hotel to the station is the Royal Oxford Hotel. I haven't stayed there but would guess that it's pricey, as most are in Oxford! But it IS close to the station- couple of minutes walk at most.

Thank you, gingejbee,I'll have a look at it.Just noticed I've given you best answer. Thanks again.
I have stayed at the Randolph and the Oxford and I wouldn't stay at either.

If the budget stretches to it or you can get a deal, the Old Bank. http://www.oldbank-hotel.co.uk/

For under a £100, then the Remont.

My personal favourite requires a taxi ride or use of buses and that is the Kings Arms at Woodstock (Blenheim Palace) and their rooms are very good, a nice bar and lovely food.

I stayed at the Royal Oxford for the simple reason it was less than 200m from the station.

however I think I would have done DTC's one out of the city wh sounds much better

Thank you very much for your help. The Old Bank sounds lovely!
Totally different and not everyone's cup of tea but we stayed up at the Peartree Travelodge last weekend, got it for £19 a night! Clean and comfortable in a basic way. There's a park and ride into the city on the same site, about 10 minutes. Not much in the way of food though, it's a service area, Waitrose, KFC and Starbucks, although the Holiday Inn facing does have a restaurant.

Thank you,zebo.
My favourite is the Malmaison . It's a converted prison and still has the old metal walkways. Each room is 3 cells - with the original doors. Superb.
