Broken Computer
4 Answers
I have just been told that my Sony viao media centre is beyond repair ,a component on the mother board as gone & it is no longer available, only a reconditioned one. A scrap yard locally buys old comps. as there are some metals in them which are sought after, how much do you think they would give me ,or is it not worth doing.

(I was actually going to bid on a Sony Viao Media Centre last Tuesday but I couldn't be bothered to wait several hours for it to go under the hammer). The auctioneers struggles to get £5 bids on non-working (or simply untested) computers, and has been known to let them go for £2. Given that there are several scrap dealers attending those auctions, I have to assume that the scrap value of them isn't very high.
Buenchico's answer seems good. I have just resurrected an old Acer laptop for my grandson with the help of mrmemory.com. Put in manufacturer, model number, etc. and they will tell you the exact part you need and order it for you, if still available. Secondly, why not try e.bay, there might be an old one on there just for parts. Good luck with it.
