I have just had my umpteenth Bisodol tablet of the day and for some bizarre reason, it tasted like turtle food!?
Well, to be exact, it tasted like terrapin food.

Ok, so I haven't actually tasted terrapin food, but we had them as kids and I imagine that's what it tastes like. You know, like when a smell goes into your mouth?

Should I sick it up? Could there be a problem with the batch of tablets? It tasted really, really weird.

You can buy them off the shelf, Asda do their own brand or you could get Zantec which is the brand name, no need for a prescription.

I couldn't make myself sick, I'd just suffer the consequences! drink lots of fluids and pray to the God of Heartburn

It's too late, I've done it.

Without being too gross, this weird thick, yellow stuff came up?
Buy some gaviscon
was it your stomach?

;o)
Question Author
Yuk! Gaviscon is disgusting.

I think it was part of my stomach.... :-/

Have you tried Ranitidine tablets, I suffer from heartburn but find Gaviscon or Bisodol useless, whereas these sort it every time.

I haven't Frank, no. I've not even heard of them? Can you buy them or do they require a prescription?
My GP prescribed me something (can't remember the name) but they didn't really help.
Gaviscon tends to work for all of 5 minutes, and I'm going through packets and packets of Bisodol! :(

Thank you very much :-)

masmen, if you are going through packets and packets of tablets. you should see your gp. continuing use of antacisds may be harmful.
what's causing the heartburn do you know?
Question Author
No idea, but I've had it for years. It's got a lot worse over the past year though.
I have seen my doctor about it, he prescribed me some tablets that didn't really do much. I'm awaiting a scan at the hospital for a stomach issue though, so maybe something will show up that will shed some light on it.

One doctor seemed to think it was IBS. Not convinced myself, but then what do I know.

Yellow stuff is bile. Zantac ( Ritinadine) and the like are better because instead of 'masking' the problem with a chalky solution, they actually stop the production of stomah acid for up to 12 hours.
Question Author
Desky, I've tried pretty much everything - or so I thought.
Honestly never heard of Zantac. Thanks to Frank (and spikey) I now have something new to try!
I used to have terrible heartburn and was going through packets of tablets like you. Eventually doc sent me to the hospital where I had the old camera down the throat and I have acid reflux due to weak valve.....am on Omeprazle daily now and as long as I dont miss one I am just fine.
Acid reflux or heartburn can also be caused by coeliac condition and if it is that, won't be got rid of until you're on a wheat/gluten free diet unfortunately.

However, a good home remedy for heartburn is a teaspoon of malt vinegar taken neat, it does work if a little unconventional. Hope you sort it soon MM as it's a horrible condition to suffer.
