Does Anyone Seriously Want This Man As A Councillor?
Just read an article regarding councillor John Cherry's remarks about Pakistani school children and find myself amazed that anyone with views like this is in his position in the first place. Are this man's ideas so out of touch with reality or does anyone really think it's okay to hold opinions like this based purely on someone's nationality and the fact they live in a 'coloured area'? Should he stand down or be removed from office?

In my limited experience...I would agree...the Chinese and particularly one junior i had fro Singapore....had an admirable "work ethic"......."bright as buttons" ..always one step ahead.
\\There are certain nationalities where hard work is highly valued. There are certain nationalities where they are uncertain what this hard work is all about.\\
\\\If the children are not allowed out of the site then it will make them want to escape into the forest – it will be a sexual volcano.\\
I am not sure that i understand that..........but "think" I may ..;-)
\\Has anyone asked whether these children want to be plucked from their natural surroundings? They have never done boarding before, so they won’t know how it works.\\
That is an excellent point. Some years back an underprivileged "black girl" was sent to the famous public school of Millfield ..it didn't turn out well for her.
Would i want him as a Councillor....YES.....I wouldn't be put off him by that newspaper report.

BAX...this chap has now resigned, because he made a complete p***k of himself. He has also been castigated by his own Party. Far be it for me to agree with the Tories but in this case they were right.
Racism and bigotry need to be addressed, every time they occur, which is what I was doing, along with most posters on this topic. Sorry for not agreeing with you ! Perhaps if you said something that wasn't objectionable once in a while, more people would agree with you !
Try it...it might work, you never know !

I think the thing that should be recognised is that the comments were coming from someone who is obviously a little bit ignorant of Durand Academy.
A cursory search on the Internet will reveal that Durand was rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted in it's latest report:
Durand's overall effectiveness is outstanding. The pupils get off to a flying start in the Foundation Stage and continue to make excellent progress across the school. At the age of eleven, they reach good standards in their work and their achievement is outstanding. This, together with their outstanding personal development, means that the pupils are extremely well prepared to move on to their next school and continue to learn.
The pupils behave impeccably. Even when they think they are unobserved, they walk smartly and with pride. There is great mutual respect between pupils and between pupils and adults.
Attitudes to learning are excellent and pupils apply themselves readily to their tasks. This is a significant contributory factor to their excellent progress. Pupils are fully committed to healthy living and thoroughly enjoy their appetising organic school lunches.
If you care to, you can read the full report by entering 'durand academy ofsted' into a Google search.
Now...reading that - who WOULDN'T want to get their child into Durand?
Also, from what I can see, Durand is a primary school, so the likelihood of a sexual volcano in the forest is going to be pretty slim.
Finally, to the question of development - I've seen a number of reports which clearly state that academic development is pretty evenly matched between children of different races in primary school. So I question what Mr Cherry means with regards to 'different kinds of Asians'.
This is a man who appears to have neglected to check facts before hitting the keyboard.
Is he racist? I'm not sure...I think he leans more to ignorant and stupid rather than being an out and out racist.
Also, he could definitely do with hiring a research assistant.

I have just been on to the BBC News Website, or News from Moscow, as it used to be called by some Tories, and found this :::

In this article he admits that his remarks were "extremely foolish" so I guess there is nothing more that we can say about this affair. God loves a repentant sinner it is said, so we must accept his apology with good grace. After all we all have a bad day once in a while.
On to the next topic please !

FredPuli43...I haven't seen any evidence that his opinions are held by anybody on the left, nor agreed with. I'm not saying that there aren't people on the left who might agree with Mr Cherry. Foolish people exist in all walks of life. But its just that I haven't come across any evidence. The comments by the Chair of the Parish Council seem a trifle odd as well, if the BBC page is anything to go by ::::
"There is no evidence to show that children's attainment levels or chances in life are going to be improved by such a school "
Not sure how she can possibly know any salient details about these poor kids one way or another. I haven't met this person but I would bet my last penny that she isn't black. She sounds like Margot Leadbetter in the Good Life, who remonstrated with Tom for allowing "children from the council estate" to follow on behind him when he was riding his lawnmower contraption down the middle of the road. Tom responded by saying that it would set the kids a good example to see what they could amount to if they worked hard and got themselves out of the gutter.
Mr Cherrys comments were bizarre to say the least. It wasn't just a racist rant. He thinks that a sexual volcano will result in these kids being sent to this leafy area of Britain !
And who these days talks about "coloured" areas ! Perhaps he expecting some turquoise or bright green kids to be skipping around in the trees !
Butt he has apologised and as others have pointed out, we must respect that at least. Lets hope he doesn't pop up again any time soon.
